Woven or elastic sling?
There are many different slings on the market. But not all slings are the same. Some are made of elastic fabric and others are woven.
But what actually is the difference ?
Our sandiia cloths are woven with a jacquard weave. This gives them the beautiful patterns and diagonal elasticity. You can also say: the cloth is cross-elastic. This is common and intentional with a woven fabric so that the sling can be pulled tight over the baby's back and give it the necessary support. Elastic slings, on the other hand, are knitted fabrics, which make them much more elastic. Knitted scarves, for example, are also more elastic than woven tea towels.
With a woven sling, just one layer of fabric is enough to adequately support your baby. Of course, only if it was tied correctly. Because an elastic sling is much more stretchy, a layer of fabric not is sufficient as support. There must always be 3 layers of fabric to adequately support your baby.
With an elastic sling there are only a few tying options, whereas with woven slings there are countless. You can also use a woven sling for much longer than an elastic one. Because the heavier your baby becomes, the more the elastic cloth gives way and it wears out.
Here is an overview of all the advantages of the woven sling:
-
firm hold and optimal support
-
is very stable and does not wear out
-
is still diagonally elastic
-
enables beautiful patterns in the fabric
-
allows you to carry it in different ways – even on your back
-
allows larger and heavier babies and children to be carried
-
can also be used as a hammock
-
can be used for a long time
By the way, we always recommend our longer scarf for beginners. This means you can use almost all binding options.
